The battery is either used to power the Silent Circuit™, which will allow single-coil pickups to be heard without the 60 cycle hum, or it is also used to power the piezo electronics, or both.
The only guitar we make with active electronics is the Luke, which is made to Steve Lukather's exact specifications.
